C3: THE GALA TRIAL: CAROTID ENDARTERECTOMY - GENERAL OR LOCAL ANAESTHESIA?
Frances Dixon takes us systematically through the GALA Trial and prompts valuable discussion with several Consultant Vascular Surgeons (Mr Chris Darby, Mr Andrew Northeast, Mr Jeremy Perkins) who perform carotid endarterectomies under both local and general anaesthesia.
Dr Mark Stoneham, Consultant Vascular Anaesthetist
C4:THE EVOLUTION OF CAROTID ANAESTHESIA
Dr Mark Stoneham, a true pioneer in vascular anaesthesia, gives this exceptional and fascinating session on the evolution of carotid anaesthesia and his role in bringing "awake carotid techniques" to Oxford. Carotid anaesthetic techniques are discussed in detail as are issues relevant to our everyday carotid practice. This session is one of the highlights of the programme.
Professor Alison Halliday

Mr Ben Warner-Michel
C7: EXTRACRANIAL DUPLEX IMAGING
In this pre-recorded session, Ben Warner-Michel covers carotid duplex imaging and takes us through extracranial anatomy and haemodynamics, carotid artery flow dynamics, NASCET velocity criteria, PSV ratios, NASCET versus ECST grading and the pitfalls and limitations of carotid US scanning.
